In My Kitchen October 2014

In My Kitchen_October_2014 Pink Coloured Jars of Sugar and Coconut/ Pink Baking CupsAs part of the In My Kitchen post for October I decide to turn this post pink, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Dedicating this post to all the fighters and survivors of this disease, also honoring the loved ones who are no longer with us. Most of us know someone who has or had some type of cancer, I know how traumatic the experience is… but thank God, I am still here. Once again joining Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial, this is my very pink October entry.

Rummaging through my kitchen I realized I did not have much in the way of pink so I turned some granulated sugar and dried coconut different shades of pink. Now I have some pretty shades of pink to decorate baked goods with and have a cute spoon to match. Have you used baking cups for baking your cupcakes or muffins in? I normally use cupcake/muffin liners, but these pink patterned baking cups seem fairly sturdy. Hopefully they are baker-friendly.

Coil Whisk and pink icingWhen you need to whisk small amounts of liquid ingredients, a small coil whisk is a handy kitchen tool to have in your utensil drawer. Perfect tool for mixing up a small amount of pink icing.
mini pink dutch oven pink peppercorns and pink Murray River SaltSpotted this mini pink cast iron dutch oven, it was the last piece and going for a bargain… could’t resist! Unlike my large dutch oven, feeding the family with this mini version might be a problem, but it’s perfect for holding pâte, dips and melted chocolate.

Some pink ingredients stocked in my kitchen, pink salt from the Murray river and pink peppercorns/berries. The pink doilies that you see in the photographs are reusable and they make colorful photography props too.

Egg holder for 6 eggsNo more eggs rolling around or falling off counter tops in my kitchen with this cute egg holder. Although I store eggs in the fridge, I use this egg holder when baking and cooking. I know Easter is months away, but you don’t have to wait until then to color some eggs.
Milk Bottle with Straws and Pink RibbonSmall milk bottles, coloured paper straws and pink ribbon are some more photography props that you will find in my kitchen.

  2. Moya, such wonderful sentiments behind your nod to pink this month. Plus your food styling and photography is ever so pretty.

    1. Have not used baking cups before so hopefully they won’t fall apart or the cakes stick! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

    1. Thank you Glenda, it is an important message and raising awareness has educated so many of us about breast cancer. 🙂

  3. What a beautiful pink post! I’m glad you’re ok, Moya! And how wonderful that you have Murray River salt in your kitchen on the other side of the world! Your little egg holder is very cute – I need one of those. Whenever I’m baking, eggs rolls over the bench! 🙂

    1. Thank you Celia 🙂 My salty reminder of a wonderful visit to Melbourne last March, a fabulous city. Sound like you need that egg holder Celia 🙂
