In My Kitchen October 2017

A few accessories in my kitchen this October…

An avocado sock… I didn’t even know they existed until a kitchen accessory loving friend thought I might like one. Made from wool, the sock apparently ripens avocados faster than a paper bag, well I didn’t put that to the test but who cares, the are so cute. I placed a very hard avocado inside and it took about a day and a half to ripen. Now I want a pair of socks! And on the subject of avocados this is one of our favorite pates made with avocado.

My lovely son brought me this gorgeous handmade lime green pho bowl set from a Vietnamese craft center that employes handicapped people near the Cu Chi Tunnels. Perfect for a serving of this prawn and rice noodle soup.

A stylish partyclette by BOSKA. At the time of buying I did wonder if they were a bit gimmicky and would the tea light candles create enough heat to sufficiently melt the cheese. Glad I bought two (the other for hubby), they work perfectly and the melted cheese slides easily from the tray. The trick is to use thinly sliced cheese of even thickness for best results. The partyclette are so portable, easy to use and perfect dining ideas when catching up with your favorite Netflix programs.

When it’s tea for one this colorful small cast-iron teapot is perfect for brewing my white and green teas in. Also, usually store these special teas in an airtight tea caddy rather than the bags you take them home in.

Lovely when friends think of you (and your blog) when traveling and bring back souvenirs, the cheese board from Ireland and the pretty glass handle cheese knife from Italy… they must have been on the same page when shopping.

You can never have enough servers and these large wooden chopstick servers are great for picking up pieces of slicked meats, cheese or noodle style salads.

  1. The avocado sock is so delightfully unnecessary and also entertaining. Sheep themes and cartoon-like designs are everywhere in the tourist shops in Galway: glad you were given a good one!

  4. We have no need our woollen socks since moving to Brisbane. I’m going to set one aside to ripen avos. It definitely won’t be glam like yours though. I’ve been eyeing off similar tea pots in a local shop. Yours is gorgeous

  5. The tea pot is just the thing to keep your brew hot, the mini raclette warmer looks intriguing, but it’s the avocado sock that tickles me silly. I’d like to chat with whoever dreams up such things!

  6. Moya, I wasn’t even two paragraphs into reading your post when I started printing off your recipes. Thanks for the links! Your avocado pate’ sounds divine and that prawn & rice noodle soup is perfect for our cooler weather now. (Or anytime.) Yay for slurping. 🙂 The rest of the gadgets in your kitchen are as intriguing as they are beautiful. I especially loved your new glass handled cheese knife — a work of art! And that avocado sock? Who knew?! xo

  7. Love that blue teapot, the colour is gorgeous. Where did you get it from Moya? Your partyclette sounds like a lot of fun to share with friends & family even though I know nothing about them. Liking your nice, clean and easy new look of your blog too 🙂 xx
