Flower Petal & Green Tea Compound Butter is simple to make and as you already know, everything tastes better with butter. Although I’ve made flavored butters before, I loved this pretty colorful layered version. Butter is sliced lengthways and each slice dusted with freshly ground green tea leaves and a scattering of fresh and dried edible flower petals. The layers are gently pressed together and using the foil butter wrapper, gently but firmly wrapped the butter, keeping its shape.
The inspiration for this post came from watching a short video on Instagram by Nordic Chefs. Although my version is not as refined, I don’t mind the rustic look of my attempt. The Chefs sliced the butter using a handheld slicer and used fresh flower petals and a vibrant green hemp powder. With not having hemp powder, ground some loose Japanese green tea leaves instead. I thought to use some dried flower petals as well as fresh petals. To slice the chilled butter I used a mandoline…you do need to be very careful while doing this. Or, use an appropriate knife…slice whatever way you are comfortable with.
The flavors of this floral and green tea compound butter are subtle and when sliced diagonally, each slice reveals a colorful layered effect that looks so gorgeous. Perfect for spreading over freshly baked scones for an afternoon tea or homemade waffles for a special occasion.
Do hope you get as much pleasure as I did trying out this colorful recipe. I didn’t mention the weight of each ingredient as this is more about technique. You might also like the Lavender Honeycomb Butter or the Cardamom Honey Butter recipes on previous posts.
