Honey and Lemon Hot Toddy

Honey Drink-1508-2It seems colds and sore throats are going around and our house has not escaped the seasonal aliments of our cooler climate. When I was a kid my Dad would make us a hot concoction of honey and lemon juice at bedtime and when we were older a little whiskey or brandy added… he was a great believer in this remedy for colds and flues and said it would make us feel better. I always remember the drink was very warming and soothing, especially when you had a sore throat, so I guess Dad was right, it did make us feel better. Dad would also add a clove or two in this drink called a hot toddy. I have used nutmeg this time around which is another warming spice that we love. So if this soothing drink does not cure you, it will at least make you feel better.

Bahraini Bees-0893Bought some Bahraini honey from our local farmers market, something different in the basket this time around. Bees have been on my mind for some time and we have always had them happily living in out garden for years. They are such an important part of the eco system and when you study them, bees are fascinating insects and the only ones that produce a source of food for humans… but more on that subject a little later.

  1. Hi Moya, My mum always gave us a lemon and honey drink too. If we were really sick she would dissolve an aspirin in it. Not a bad combo, I guess.
