Feed Your Face with a Chamomile and Honey Mask

Chamomile and Honey Face MaskSomething a little different this time around with a recipe to pamper yourself using ingredients that may already be in your kitchen. Feeding my face with some natural ingredients like chamomile, honey and oatmeal  as a facial mask, is something I like to do now and then. Going to salons and having beauty treatments is not my thing and friends and family know I’d rather spend time wandering around a kitchen shop. Don’t get me wrong, I really love creams and potions but would rather pamper myself at home.

Bees and HoneyMy son gave me the Collins Beekeeper’s Bible and there is a section on home beauty recipes. I love face masks and liked the idea of this recipe using an infusion of chamomile for its soothing effects. Also, honey is known for it’s healing and hydrating properties and oatmeal for exfoliation. The recipe also used bran and as I didn’t have any, doubled the quantity of oatmeal instead. I have greatly reduced the amount of water as using 150ml would have made the mask very watery. I adapted the recipe to suit the consistency I like to apply. This mask is recommend for dry skin and it feels really lovely when applying over your face. And don’t worry if you get some on your lips… it tastes good too. We all need to pamper ourselves every now and then… even if it’s at home.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon dried chamomile flowers
  • 75ml of boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon of good quality honey
  • 2 tablespoons finely ground oatmeal

How to make:

Add the chamomile flowers to a heat-proof bowl and pour over the boiling water. Cool until warm and then strain.

Combine the honey and oatmeal. Gradually add the some of infused liquid (about two tablespoons) while stirring until it forms a thick creamy paste.

Apply evenly to the face and leave for about 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse the face mask off using tepid water. Pat dry with a towel and apply your favourite face moisturizer.

  1. Never heard of chamomile for the face before. I think it’s brilliant and will definitely try this! I hate salons too and love using natural things from the kitchen. Thanks Moya!

  2. Your welcome Shabana, hope you give the face mask a try. If you can’t find dried chamomile flowers you could always use a chamomile tea bag, just make sure it’s the only ingredient and not mixed with any other flavor 🙂
