Didn’t manage last months In My Kitchen post and now just about squeezing in August’s as the deadline for joining is hours away. So, a quick roundup of some kitchen treasure and bits of baking from my happy place.
In My Kitchen….
Although not as practical as my digital kitchen scales, love the color and the old-fashioned look of these mechanical scales. My guess is, like myself, you have more than one type of kitchen scales in your kitchen.
Thought this little stackable spice pot would be a perfect for serving some of my sea salts in.
Made by a friend, these Oreo brownies didn’t last long. My kids have always loved Oreos and I never a big fan but did enjoy them in these brownies.
It’s been ages since I made Biscotti and pleased they turned out as well as they did. This recipe had lots of nuts which we love and of course made perfect sweet treats for our coffee breaks. Love that you can keep biscotti for weeks and don’t need to consume them in a matter of days.
Made this lovely butternut, almond and honey cake from the Yotam Ottolenghi and Helen Goh cookbook, “Sweet”. This was our chosen book for our cookbook club but unfortunately wasn’t able to attend and missed out tasting the other prepared recipes. Although I don’t use my nut roll tin as often as my other baking tins, love when I do. My first cake to make using butternut was Glenda’s (from mypassionfruitgareden.com) Mum’s fruit cake, another gorgeous cake that I now love to bake.
Hubby brought back this cute handmade serving bowl from his travels which is now sitting happily on my kitchen dresser.
Picked this arabic calligraphy embossed plate from an artists pop up shop, the writing translated means “life”. Thought it might be a perfect plate for serving handmade chocolates on.

Your baked goods look so delicious! Do oreo brownies have chunks of oreos in them, or is it some other way to celebrate this favorite (not so much my own fave, though).

Mae, I’ve never made Oreo brownies before, these were my friends yummy creations. I guess chunks of Oreo are pushed into the batter before baking 🙂

Gorgeous scales! Yes I have more than one set too, one has to be able to do the “micro” quantities required in some recipes. Have a lovely August.

hi Moya,
thanks for joining in this month. lovely to have you. those scales are so pretty but a bit big for my kitchen, so I’ll have to stick to my little digital one. love that plate with the sheep, and the cute pots for salt. i loooove ceramics, as you may have noticed on my IMK posts.:) I don’t mind an Oreo or 2; not that we buy them much – not really a big thing in Australia. i remember my nan’s nut tin loaves with a wee bit of horror as she put dates in them – and I just can’t do dates… have a great month. cheers sherry

Thanks Sherry 🙂 Yes I know you are a big ceramics fan and you love Japanese items too. Maybe you didn’t meet the right date yet…. must say I do love dates especially the ones growing on our date palm.

Moya, I love your “artsy” photos, particularly your biscotti and Bialetti. That embossed “life” plate with your homemade chocolate was the perfect dessert!
