In My Kitchen July 2019

July already, the last six months have flown by and most likely so shall the rest of the year. The monthly “In My Kitchen” blog posts creep up real fast and I find myself with not much documented. But I do look forward to having a peek inside the kitchen of others, showcasing some of their kitchen treasures. You can find the link to all other IMK participants at the bottom of this post. 

Thought I’d mention… I know some of you had issues commenting (thank you for trying, multiple times) on this blog and I found it almost impossible to comment on some blogs too. I do hope this time around commenting goes without any glitches. 

In my kitchen…

Our summer temperatures are extremely hot so no trips out for this picnic basket for the next couple of months. Until then, plenty of time to think about all the delicious food and beverages to fill this cute basket with. Quiche, brown rice salads, sandwiches and loaf cakes are some of my favorite picnic foods. Do you have favorite picnic foods?

A beautiful bouquet of flowers on my kitchen window sill. My daughters lovely friend shared some of her engagement flowers, wasn’t that sweet. 

Gorgeous espresso cup and saucer set from illy’s art collection, the “Iris” collection designed by artist Marc Quinn. Each saucer represents the unique colors of the human eye and the black center, the pupil. Love how the outside of the cup acts like a mirror, reflecting the colorful design. This artists work has a deeper meaning to ponder over, but for now, I shall admire the art and enjoy the coffee.

Made some sweet mince pie filling with dried fruit that needed using. I know we have months before Christmas but decided to break with tradition…  nobody complained about eating mince pies mid-year. And, some of my pastry essentials needed a good kitchen workout.

The pretty wrapped panforte with candied fruits, almonds and the ricciarelli (almond biscuit seen above with coffee) were a few sweet treats brought back from a recent trip. I had all the ricciarelli to myself as others in the house are not fans of the marzipan flavor… lucky me.

    1. Hi Mae… I wondered what putti was… guess I need to brush up on my Italian. Would have loved if the panforte was packaged in a pretty tin like this gorgeous paper wrapping with the cute cherub or should I say putti 🙂

    1. It’s a small picnic basket and truthfully doesn’t get used so often…. but maybe if I lived near parks and woodlands and weather permitting… it might be different. I must look for a good Ricciarelli recipe… they are delicious 😊

  5. Moya, your picnic basket for two is so cute! Smiling over the pink flamingo on the flask. (Never saw a flask in a picnic basket, but good idea.) My favorite picnic food is sandwiches with a side of fresh fruit. Love your mini-Bialetti and gorgeous cup and saucer — neat to learn they represent the colors of the eye — looked like a Monet to me. 🙂 So nice to have an unexpected bouquet to color your world, too. Also, I’d eat mince pie any day of the year!


    1. Hi Kim, the pink flamingo flask is in case I need a little tipple of something stronger other than tea 🙂 Yes fruit is always a good choice to bring on picnics too.

  7. What an adorable picnic basket. We have one but it’s very long in the tooth and certainly not a cute oval shape. A favourite picnic food it baked, crumbed chicken, served cold with a squeeze of lemon. I have fruit mince marinating in a jar that will be stirred into vanilla ice cream, and then sandwiched between gingerbread for our Aussie summer Christmas. Thanks for the tour.
